Slavery and its Legacy: Questions and Answers for Liverpool, Britain and the Wider World

Tuesday 14 October, 5pm, Kuumba Imani Millennium Centre, 4 Princes Road, L8 1TH

Sandew Hira (International Institute for Scientific Research) and Prof. Stephen Small (University of California, Berkeley)

Sandew and Stephen will share the results of their recent book on legacies of slavery in the Netherlands ...and invite the audience to discuss how far Britain and Liverpool have to go in acknowledging the ongoing legacies of slavery in the twenty-first century. As a Liverpool local, Stephen is particularly keen to see old friends and contacts, having previously worked with the Kuumba Imani Millennium Centre for his research on community and commemoration of slavery in our city. The event is hosted by the Centre for the Study of International Slavery, a partnership between the University of Liverpool and National Museums Liverpool, as part of Merseyside Black History Month. Everyone is welcome and the event is completely free: Please share the invitation and contact csis@liv.ac.uk with any questions ahead of the talk.
